- Wardal has won 100 film awards with two short films since 2023, including the 81st Venice Film Festival and the 78th Cannes Film Festival, both for the special Wild Filmmakers section.
Life is amazing: the iconic Italian ( but also Egyptian and Spanish ) and then international star Count Federico di Wardal (Wardal), Fellini’s last muse, emerging from the painful drama between him and a director over a film about his life entitled “Ancient Taste of Death: The Sinister Legend of Wardal,” learns from his dear friend Francesco Garibaldi, descendant of the hero of two worlds Giuseppe Garibaldi, that the legendary hero will be celebrated in Brazil, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, from October 28th to November 4th, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration there.
Wardal immediately came up with the idea of making a film based on Garibaldi’s sublime lyric poetry about the agony and death of his beloved wife Anita.
The film was titled “Anita.” Wardal starred, his friend, the famous flutist Maestro Andrea Ceccomori, wrote and performed the score, and Francesco Garibaldi provided his valuable historical and cultural insights into Garibaldi.
Wardal created a cut in the film using a projector that once belonged to Rudolph Valentino himself, to introduce sequences from the film of the same name, “Anita,” starring Anna Magnani. The film thrilled the Brazilian organizers of the event in Rio Grande do Sul, and now the film, which was shown throughout the state of Rio Grande do Sul, has become a huge success and is spreading throughout Brazil.
But the film’s success is spreading to California, where on November 9th, at the legendary Herbst Theater in San Francisco, Wardal will receive the award for Best Actor, Andrea Ceccomori for Best Score, and Francesco Garibaldi for Best Film Concept at the San Francisco New Concept Film Festival, directed by Joanna Zhang and executive director Elizabeth Nguyen. The film is spreading throughout Hollywood, which is discovering the legendary and timeless Wardal. But Italy hasn’t forgotten Wardal, who hasn’t appeared in Italy for twenty years, except for Pirandello’s unreleased “Nemo,” which premiered in Rome to great acclaim two years ago.Wardal will be celebrated on December 13th in Pompeii at the Mattiello Theater at the Vesuvius Film Festival, chaired by Giovanna D’Amodio.
And Wardal will once again be honored for the film “Anita,” which is in high demand in Monaco and is preparing to welcome France.
The film “Anita” continues to spread everywhere, certainly due to its unstoppable dramatic intensity, effectively captured by Wardal.
But there’s still some great news: the new “Courage for Peace” film award, created by Francesco Garibaldi, its president, and Wardal, its artistic director, will be presented at the Vesuvius Film Festival to five major films on this theme: “Chrisalis” starring Hollywood star Sir Daniel Winn; “Book of Death” by Emily Letran, awarded by Pope Francis; “Anita”; “Kamilah the Miracle Filly” by Angela Alioto; and “I Waited from You” by Jennifer Glee. Among the award recipients are Enrico Bernard, Michael Poryes, author of “Anna Montana,” and Victoria Wilder, daughter of Billy Wilder. The “Courage for Freedom” award will remain permanently at the Vesuvius Film Festival, but will have a second home at Brazil’s most important film festival, Gramado.
Wardal’s next projects? A film called “Narcissuss” with the cinematic debut of the Sardinian fashion designer Antonio Zaru in California, a splendid song “Hollywood- fame in love” with a great star of the Italian song and two films, again in California with the names of Jason Zavaleta and Enrico Bernard, son of the legendary founder ofNeorealism, the writer Carlo Bernari.
