يحتفل المتحف المصري بالتحرير بالذكرى ال 122 لتأسيسه، وهو أحد المعالم التاريخية والسياحية بالقاهرة، فهو أقدم متحف أثري في الشرق الأوسط، وأول مبنى ينشأ في العالم ليكون متحفاً.

بدأت فكرة إنشاء المتحف المصري بالتحرير عام 1895، ثم قام الخديوي عباس حلمي الثاني بافتتاحه رسميًا في 15 نوفمبر من عام 1902، ليضم مجموعة متميزة من الآثار المصرية من عصر ماقبل الأسرات وحتى العصرين اليوناني الروماني.
يضم المتحف معامل ترميم متميزه بالإضافة إلى مكتبة تحتوي على كتب وموسوعات نادرة تتناول الآثار والحضارة المصرية القديمة.
The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square is celebrating its 122nd anniversary. As one of Cairo’s historical & tourist landmarks, it is the oldest archaeological museum in the Middle East & the first building in the world designed specifically as a museum.
The concept for the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir began in 1895, and it was officially inaugurated by Khedive Abbas Helmy II on November 15, 1902. Today, the museum houses an exceptional collection of Egyptian antiquities, spanning from the pre-dynastic era through to the Greek & Roman periods.
In addition to its impressive collection, the museum features advanced restoration laboratories and a library that holds rare books and encyclopedias on Egyptian antiquities and ancient civilization.
