التقى نائب رئيس الوزراء ووزير الخارجية، السيد فؤاد حسين، بأعضاء الوفد التفاوضي العراقي المشارك في مؤتمر الأطراف لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لتغير المناخ (COP29)، المنعقد في العاصمة الأذربيجانية باكو، للمدة من 11 – 22 تشرين الثاني 2024.

تم خلال اللقاء استعراض الموقف التفاوضي الرسمي للعراق إزاء القضايا المطروحة للنقاش في جلسات المؤتمر، وذلك من حيث المساحات الوطنية المحددة لتقليل الانبعاثات والغازات الدفيئة، وكذلك الإجراءات والخطط الوطنية للتخفيف والتكيف. كما تم التطرق إلى مواقف العراق بشأن صندوق الخسائر والأضرار، إلى جانب موقفه من الهدف الكمي الجماعي الجديد، الذي يؤكد على مبادئ المسؤولية التاريخية، والإنصاف، والمسؤوليات المشتركة.

وأكد العراق رفضه لأية محاولات لفرض قيود إضافية على الدول المنتجة للنفط؛ حيث شدد السيد الوزير خلال اللقاء على ضرورة العمل على إدراج مواقف العراق وشواغله الوطنية في جميع القرارات التي ستصدر عن مؤتمر الأطراف لاتفاقية الأمم المتحدة الإطارية لتغير المناخ في دورته الحالية، وأهمية الاستفادة من الخبرات الدولية في مجالي التخفيف والتكيف، في ظل رغبة بعض الدول الصديقة في تقديم الدعم التكنولوجي لمواجهة التداعيات السلبية لتغير المناخ والتلوث البيئي.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets Iraqi negotiating delegation participating in the Conference of Parties (COP29) in Azerbaijan

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Fuad Hussein, met with the members of Iraqi negotiating delegation participating in the Conference of the Parties (COP29), to the United Nations of Framework Convention regarding the Climate Change, held in Baku, the Azerbaijani capital, from November 11-22, 2024.

The Iraqi official negotiating ‘s stance towards the issues raised for discussion in the conference sessions were reviewed during the meeting, in term of the specified national areas for reducing the emissions and greenhouse gases, in addition to the national plans for alleviation and adaptation measures. Iraq’s stances on the Loss and Damage Fund were also discussed, in addition to Iraq’s stance towards the new collective quantitative target, which emphasizes on the historical responsibility principles, equity, and shared responsibilities.

Iraq emphasized its rejection of any attempts to impose additional restrictions on the oil-producing countries. The Minister stressed the necessity to work on including Iraq’s stances and national concerns in all decisions that will be issued by the Conference of the Parties of United Nations Framework Convention regarding the Climate Change in its current session, and the importance of benefiting from international expertise in the field of mitigation and adaptation, in light of some friendly countries ‘s desire to provide the technological support to confront the negative repercussions of climate change and environmental pollution.
